Technical talks between Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali-Akbar Salehi and US Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz went on today at 9:30 AM local time in the Austrian capital.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Ministers Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Majijd Takht-Ravanchi also held a meeting with Deputy EU Foreign Policy Chief Helga Schmid at 9:00 AM local time (11:30 AM Tehran time.)
Iran’s permanent representative to IAEA Reza Najafi also attended the meeting between deputy FMs and Helga Schmid.
Although the foreing ministers of Iran and the six states are returning to Palais Coburg, no definite schedule has yet been set for bilateral or multilateral ministerial meetings. Moreover, Iran's Takht-Ravanchi will leave Vienna for Tehran for less than 24 hours to attend funeral of her mother-in-law who passed away on Tuesday. He will be back in Vienna on Friday.
Abbas Araghchi said on Tuesday that an understanding has been reached on the removal of financial and economic sanctions, noting that the 5+1 should make a "political decision" to settle the remaining issues blocking a final deal on Tehran’s nuclear program.
British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond also said on Tuesday that the negotiating parties have “a clear” will to reach a final nuclear agreement.
On Thursday, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said no insurmountable problems are left at nuclear negotiations between Iran and the 5+1 countries.
Iran and the 5+1 countries - the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany - have been engaged in crucial talks in the Austrian capital Vienna towards reaching a landmark deal over Tehran’s nuclear program.
While the negotiating sides missed an initial deadline of June 30, EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said on Tuesday that the negotiations would continue for "a couple" of more days.
